Welcome to the Noel Parlane's newsletter 2004

June and July sees me back in New Zealand and it is rather quiet on the home front. After a busy schedule performing around Brisbane, it is rather refreshing as it gives me time to recollect my thoughts and ideas before heading back onto that roller coaster ride associated with the entertainment industry. I was back in New Zealand through until 22nd August and then left for Brisbane to resume touring and performing in the League clubs and RSL. I had some bookings in place and we did some more shows with Queenslands top entertainer John McSweeny, and performed at such places as Kedron Wavell and Bronco’s, which are a couple of Brisbane’s biggest clubs. We did not get down to sing on the Gold Coast in 2003 but we plan to be in that area in 2004. I did get to perform again at the Caloundra RSL, this club is really something and would have to be one of the finest clubs in Australia. I met up with a good friend of mine Maria Dallas who I worked with in the early 80’s. It was good to catch up with her and she still performs better than ever. We were both listed with Warren Trout Promotions, a promotional entertainment company still operating in Brisbane and I plan to look at doing some shows with Warren again in 2004, so it will be back on the treadmill again real soon. I travelled back to New Zealand on the 15th November to spend Christmas at home and during this time I plan to promote a new CD single called Penny Christmas card. We will be back in New Zealand until the end of February, then I will return to work in Australia.

This has been an exciting year for me with a new CD release here in New Zealand in the month of May 2003 and this was released on the EMI NZ record label. This was a double CD, which is a compilation of songs from two of my earlier albums, which were released on the BMG/RCA record label in the mid eighties. This new CD features such tracks as Faded Love, When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold, Remembering, Don’t Be Angry to name a few, with a total of 36 tracks.
These albums were recorded in the Mandrill studios in Auckland and produced by Gary Daverne; this features some of the country’s finest musicians. We were lucky enough to have my good friend Read Hudson playing the Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Pedal Steel, Mandolin and the Dobro. Read is a very talented musician who has featured on a lot of my earlier albums, one especially released in 2002 called Trucks And Trains. The new release is also available online and is entitled Choosey This will be also available through my web site www.noelparlane.com.
I have been liasing with record companies while back in New Zealand and all has been rewarding as we have now secured a recording contract with one of New Zealand’s well respected recording companies ‘Kiwi Pacific Records International Ltd’ who will oversee the distribution worldwide for all of my up and coming albums to be recorded over the next 3 years. My next new release, which will be my first on the Kiwi Record label, is scheduled for release in January 2004 and will be available, nationwide in all good record stores. This new CD will feature some of Noel’s previous hits like ‘You Bring Out The Best In Me ‘ with Suzanne Prentice, Smooth Sailing, It Turns Me Inside Out, and features a duet with my sister Irene Russell of whom I am very proud, with a song called ‘Out of Control Raging Fire’. Plus many more!

In the pipeline for 2004, we will be looking at recording a couple of albums ranging from Gospel, ballads and Yodelling so keep checking this site for the latest info on this.
Also, in the mix we intend to look at writing and recording some more originals, so there’s plenty coming up. My new CD release has received good reviews and airplay throughout Australia, Belgium, Denmark and the UK with strong interest to tour there sometime in 2004, so all is looking good for a good year ahead.

I returned to Brisbane on the 22nd August 2003 to resume the schedule of touring throughout Queensland and NSW. I continued to do show time performances in the local and interstate RSL & League clubs as well as teaming up with one of Queensland’s top recording artists, John McSweeny. John has just recorded another new CD in America which will be released on his return in November. John asked me to follow up on the shows and guest spots in some of the main top clubs and festivals.

While back in Brisbane, I was on the recording scene once again in the Dominique Studio in North Brisbane. I teamed up with good friend Rob Stevenson and we worked on a couple of tracks - one being the standard ‘ Rose Marie’ and a favourite New Zealand Christmas song ‘ Penny Christmas Card ‘. This is a song I have always wanted to record for many years and finally we laid it down. We are pleased with the final result and with airplay already established in Brisbane, we decided to bring it home to New Zealand. The response was so favourable once we got home, I approached my new record label and the decision was made to have this included on the new CD. I also had a call from my good friend Charlie Tosh from Northern Ireland, who recorded me on his Hawk Record label back in 1995; Charlie is keen for me to travel to Nashville in 2004 to record in his new studio. This is something that we are considering so a lot could be happening for me this year
